With the advent of a fresh year, we tend to crave newness. We can choose how we respond to that craving on the vertical spectrum of changes, from relatively minor, less significant, to a deeper course correction that will yield greater meaning and fulfillment. For example, we may indulge that craving for newness by booking an exciting trip, getting new furniture, new clothes or a fancier car.
Also on that spectrum, we may choose to expand our social life, take on new hobbies, or improve our fitness level, all of which will contribute to happiness. And, if we candidly ask ourselves which part of our life most needs focused attention, change and action, we are likely to know, deep down, what deeper change we really could choose to make, whether that is a change of career, change of marital status, or other significant change.
Sometimes, we crave a change of career or a more satisfying job, but rather than courageously addressing that discontentment, we are distracting ourselves in various ways from that persistent sense of dissatisfaction. Off course, taking on a career shift can be a complex and long-term endeavor that often requires much support and resources. But in some cases, building on a career path can generate that sense of renewal without making drastic changes.
Thinking of my own career, I chose to expand its course a year ago by adding a new area of specialty through advance professional training and education in the field of relational somatic trauma therapy. That extensive training has provided me with a deeper understanding of trauma, traumatic stress and how to release it gradually through therapeutic counselling. Clients find that they gain freedom from the limitations and constrictions of trauma and are better able to expand their lives and make bold choices to improve its quality. Whether or not past trauma has limited your capacity for making meaningful changes in your life, if you crave such a change, you are invited to contact me for a complementary conversation. In this conversation, you will better understand how the process of coaching or counselling can create a transformative shift enabling you to make a truly significant and successful change in any aspect of your life.
