Inspired Momentum New Year News and Events:

In this issue:

Reflecting on 2009 - When all is said and done.
While 2009 has now subsided into history, did you or will you make time to harvest valuable reflections about that year? Like a formidable wave effervescent with possibilities, 2010 is releasing a new decade of exciting opportunities along with sobering challenges. These times call for us all to reassess what really matters most and fine-tune our lives accordingly.

Here are a few suggested questions that can help you to celebrate your gains and identify what you've learned over these past 12 months:

  • What accomplishments can you acknowledge or celebrate about 2009?
  • How have you touched other people's lives around you?
  • What moments of triumph over adversity do you remember experiencing?
  • What helped you overcome the challenges you encountered?
  • What are highlights among the most significant learning moments of 2009 and how will you best use that learning during this year?
  • If your heart could speak, what would it say that might guide you, at this time, as we enter this new decade?

Evidently, many of us were challenged in the financial arena in 2009. As result, we tend to feel a collective pull downward into the lower realms of the hierarchy of needs. When we are primarily focused on survival needs, we may become overly pragmatic and we risk gradually reducing our generosity and abandoning our dreams. If we don't keep ourselves inspired, our souls gradually wither often without us realizing it. Then, we may feel a growing malaise dulling our enjoyment of life while becoming habituated to living within just a fragment of our full potentiality.

This year, resolve to keep your dreams foremost in your heart and your field of vision. One way to do this is simply by writing your vision and related goals at the start of the year and read them at least weekly. You may need to re-write them when your intuition guides you into course-correction while flying within the inspirational current of your life. And as you take time to resource yourself and keep yourself inspired, you will better maintain your altitude, the level of awareness and energy you need to achieve your highest goals and make the best use of your precious life.

I wish you all an absolutely wonderful year, filled with unexpected blessings, radiant health, abundant prosperity and
overflowing love.

Isabelle

Youth Leadership for the New Decade
While I have been writing for and working with people in mid-life I have acquired gems of wisdom that I'll be passing on to young people. In my coaching practice, I've encountered dozens of people in midlife who wish they had been supported towards an authentic vocation during their younger years. Instead, many in our generation were prompted to just "get a job" or to develop certain high status, lucrative, or all consuming careers regardless of whether the work matched their talents or passions.

In support of their success and our collective future, I have developed a program for young people called Your Future is Calling: Tools to Excel and Ignite your Potential in the New Decade. This presentation is about leadership development, factors of authentic vocations, communication skills and character development. Delivered as a mini-workshop, this also includes live, high-impact demonstration about the importance of cultivating positive self-talk, confidence, resilience, and an active awareness of one's priorities. I will be leading this program in various high schools and higher education settings in 2010.

What's Next: Beyond Midlife Towards a Purposeful Retirement February 5th, 2010 at the Sutton Place, downtown Vancouver
Through the Institute of Chartered Accountants, I will be leading a dynamic ½ day seminar on the psycho-social and lifestyle issues of reengagement. This seminar provides clarity and imperative learning regarding important issues for those within a few years of entering some form of retirement. This seminar greatly helps participants to be better informed, to reflect and to identify their fears, hopes and expectation as they create an exciting vision of their future. (see testimonials below)

Increasingly, pre-retirees understand that financial security is but one of the success factors of this significant transition. In the midst of a recent coaching session with a Quebec client who retired in 2008, I was sorely reminded of the risks that often present themselves during the early stages beyond the workplace. My client shared with a grieving voice that an ex-colleague who also retired in 2008 became increasingly depressed and ended up committing suicide a few weeks ago. This tragic loss further affirms my sense of mission about helping boomers to not only retire but reengage into a fulfilling life that includes the contribution of their wisdom and tremendous knowledge in our society.

In this What's Next seminar, participants will explore 10 success factors including, renewal of purpose and interests, redefinition of personal identity, reassessment of values, earning possibilities, satisfying relationships and social circles. Some comments from participants in previous workshops on retirement/reengagement includes:

This course gave me much more insight in understanding all aspects of retiring and identifying a purpose after retirement. - R. H. (employed with the Government of Canada).

Isabelle's unique workshop, Purposeful Reengagement that I hosted in May 2009 for practicing and retired educators, received enthusiastic comments and very positive feedback. Afterwards, several participants said they found the session to be highly relevant and that it had motivated them to take new initiatives. Isabelle's informative content and her skilful facilitation stimulated deep, thoughtful conversations. This was a first-rate session.
- Maureen MacDonald, President of ACCES

I loved the experience of participating in Isabelle's Midlife and Reengagement workshop in Vancouver in June 2008. It was all helpful; the sharing between us was wonderful, the information was great, the exercises were excellent and thought-provoking. Thank you! - Ruth Bancroft, Langara Child Development Centre.

At the conference I attended in Vancouver in 2005, I experienced Isabelle as a very dynamic and intelligent speaker on the subject of midlife and retirement. During her seminar for our community of lawyers in Whitehorse in Feb. 2008, I found her to be very professional as she informed and inspired us and gave us plenty of relevant food for thought. -Joie Quarton, lawyer and mediator, Whitehorse.
