Perhaps you are among the people who know that New Year’s resolutions are not likely to be sustained through the year. Indeed by the end of March, most have forgotten about resolutions they may have made. The wise understand that it’s much better to review our core values, set intentions and apply course correction to make the most of our journey through the year.
In the course of leading my seminars for boomers who want to re-engage rather than merely “retire”, I’ve observed that many of them are intent on making more time for exercising to become more fit. They know that as we age, it is even more important to actively invest time and effort in maintaining our health and stamina. A few weeks ago, I also decided I wanted to upgrade my commitment to fitness but had struggled to reserve sufficient time for that important priority.
Then, I recently pointed out during my seminars that I had an insight that worked well for me and was the catalyst for a positive change in my life. I realized that while there is only 24 hours in a day and seemingly not much time to spare, there is actually 48 half hours! From that aha moment, I asked my authentic self if I could give myself permission to devote the first ½ hour of the day to walk on my treadmill and do a short meditation. For sure, I heard a resounding YES within; that this was the best way for me to launch into a dynamic, focused and productive day.
Since that time, I have not missed a day, except when I was travelling for my seminars, and as the time on the treadmill becomes a habit, it is even more effortless. My body actually gets into the movement with a sense of ease and flow each morning, and I feel lighter and more energetic.
Assuming you are keen to embrace a renewed commitment to your health and wellness, how will you resolve to make the very best use of that ½ hour at any time in your day? Perhaps you will also find that giving yourself the first 30 minutes really helps to launch your day in a proactive, energetic and positive direction. Unless you are already into this habit, give it a try and I’d love to hear back from you.
