With the new year around the corner, our minds and hearts fill with new desires, aspirations and goals. As you may know, only about 30% of resolutions are achieved because most people don’t effectively follow through on the goals they set. - Identify where you want to be by the end of the year in 3 or 4 most important aspects of your life such as your career, social life, fitness and health, earnings and savings, relationships, etc.
- Write down these aspirations as specifically as possible with detailed and feasible steps to reach them.
- Imagine yourself on December 31st, 2013 having achieved what you set out to do or change. Feel the satisfaction, the joy and the fulfillment. Look back to the present and become aware of what qualities of being you have to embrace and the habits you need to grow in order to achieve what you want.
- Now reflect for a moment on what habits you’d have to give up to fully realize these aspirations. For example, if you are in the habits of procrastinating, of giving away your personal power, or of comforting yourself by feeling sorry for yourself when facing adversity, become aware of the cost of such habits. To what extent do these patterns keep you in status quo, prevent you from attracting what you want or from accessing your inner resilience; activating the resolve needed to get through challenges?
- While keeping your aspirations in mind, resolve to develop the new habits, way of life and mindset that will foster the realization of your goals. Feel your goals’ magnetic pull and keep them within your focus on a weekly basis; keep taking actions towards their realization as you re-visit the positive emotions you anticipate at the end of the year and along the way.
- Identify some ways to reward yourself regularly as you reach the milestones on the path to your year-end goals.
- Find someone, a friend, colleague, or partner who can become an accomplice in the mutual exchange of support towards the larger, more fulfilling higher destiny calling you by way of aspirations held in your mind and heart for the fresh new year ahead. Enjoy the journey!
