Relationship Crossroads? From Ambivalence to Clarity

You may have noticed, as I have, an abundance of programs and books on attracting one’s soul mate.  Finding that special soul companion is not necessarily easy, regardless of age. Off course online dating is increasingly popular and it leads to the desired results for numerous couples. But, for every couple whose initial romantic connection grows and turns into an enduring relationship and even marriage, there are about 10 couples who won’t make it past the honeymoon phase of 3-4 months.  Most of those couples will breakup within 6 months while others will settle for an increasingly unsatisfying relationship that is marred by doubts, patterns of conflicts and distancing behaviors mixed with periods of momentary closeness. Sooner or later, those relationships are bound to end, often in painful ways.

In my role as a life transitions coach and with extensive experience working with couples, I have had clients who came to me felling tortured by trying to decide whether or not to end an unsatisfying relationship. The decision is usually hard to make for several reasons:  we can scarcely be objective about it because our perceptions change with our variable feelings about the person, we enjoy the occasional moments of closeness and think that if we hang in there and try to make it work, things might improve, and we may fear hurting the other by deciding to part.

To help render more ease in the often agonizing process of shifting from ambivalence to clarity, I have designed an assessment tool that creates a shortcut while leading to a sound decision that is reflective of one’s best interests. This invaluable tool includes 16 factors of relationship to be assessed for satisfaction and/or compatibility.  For the next few weeks, I am making this tool available free of charge.  If you or someone you know needs it, please e-mail me to request it, with “relationship assessment” in the subject line, at isabelle@inspiredmomentum.com.
